Matthew 4:1-11 JESUS: My name is Jesus and I am God's Son. After I grew up and was baptized, I went to the wilderness and fasted for forty days and forty nights. That means that I did not have anything to eat. I was very hungry after going without food for that long time. SATAN: I'm the Devil and I'm also called Satan. Boy! Was I glad when Jesus went into the wilderness to fast. I knew that after 40 days and nights He was really, really going to be hungry. Would you like to go without food for 40 days? I just knew that I could tempt Him to eat. Also, I knew that he could perform miracles. So I sneaked around and said, "If You really are God's Son, make bread out of these rocks." JESUS: But I knew that my Father would never want me to do anything that Satan wanted. I told him that my Father had said we shouldn't live just on bread but on His words. This means that we should always trust God and obey Him. SATAN: Well, since He wouldn't make the bread out of the stones. I had to try and tempt Him in some other way. So, I began to think of something else. I thought "Now everyone likes to show off" and I just knew that Jesus would be the same. I took Him into the city, to the very highest part of the temple. I told Shim that if he was the Son of God to jump off this high temple, because God would send His angels to protect Him. They wouldn't even let him hurt his foot against a stone. JESUS: But I told him that the law said that we shouldn't tempt God. We should never do anything just to get God to show us how powerful He is. SATAN: Well, I was beginning to run out of ideas! First, He wouldn't turn rocks into bread when He was hungry. Second, He wouldn't jump off the temple to prove that the angels would save Him. I refused to give up, but what could I do? Ah-Ha! I knew! Everyone wants to be rich and powerful! So I took Him to the top of a very high mountain and showed Him all of the kingdoms of the world and told Shim all of these kingdoms would be His if he would only fall down and worship me! Now is that so hard? JESUS: But I said, "Be gone Satan!" I wanted him to leave and I told him that the law said that we were only to worship God and to serve Him. SATAN: Well, after that, I left and as soon as I did, would you believe it, the angels came and took care of Him! He didn't even have to ask! JESUS: Now we could like to ask you some questions. |
